RED CROSS PHARMACY INTRODUCES WELLNESS PROGRAM

Marshall, MO - July 23, 2010 - Red Cross Pharmacy is introducing Wellness Screenings for members of the community.  Wellness Screenings available include blood pressure checks, cholesterol checks, blood glucose levels, body mass index and waist circumference, and cardiovascular and diabetes risk assessments.  Patients will also have the opportunity to enroll in Red Cross Pharmacy's Wellness Program and be scheduled for additional follow-up visits with a pharmacist.  The Wellness Screenings will be held at Kearney, Excelsior Springs, and Marshall Westport locations starting in August.

"Red Cross Pharmacy is staying ahead of the curve introducing a wellness program to the communities it serves," said Justin May, Director of Pharmacy.  "As an industry, health care is moving toward a patient-centered, medical-home model. Red Cross Pharmacy is initially offering this model at three of its communities. A Red Cross Pharmacy Pharmacist will be working with you and your doctors to help you achieve the level of understanding you desire concerning your medications and overall health."

"This is an exciting time to be a pharmacist.  With the addition of our Wellness Program we are finally able to offer services above and beyond pills in a bottle," said May.

There are many benefits to Red Cross Pharmacy's Wellness Program.  Regular health screenings help detect problems before they start and assist in early detection for better treatment.  Convenient pharmacy hours allow pharmacists to be the most accessible health care professional.  Red Cross Pharmacy allows you to combine monthly medication pick-ups with basic health screenings.  Additionally, scheduling an appointment with your pharmacist will allow detailed medication and health information to be relayed while picking up your regular prescription refills.

"Participants in the Red Cross Pharmacy community health screenings will also be given the opportunity to be a part of a research study conducted in collaboration with the University of Missouri - Kansas City School of Pharmacy", said Kristen Sobczak, Clinical Assistant Professor.  "For the study we will be gathering de-identified screening data and providing surveys in order to measure the impact pharmacists can have on a patient's health by providing these services.  Those wishing to participate will be asked to fill out a Satisfaction Survey upon completion of their screening and their data will be combined in one large aggregate."
